Lotta Sylwander is responsible for all activities under the Government of Philippines – UNICEF Country Program of Cooperation, one of the primary efforts there focused on the survival and protection of children and women and their participation in national development efforts.

To protect children from exploitation, risk factors such as poverty and discrimination need to be addressed and UNICEF works to help parents earn an adequate living wage so their children do not have to resort to working on the streets to survive and can instead enjoy school and a normal childhood.

Sylwander also works in programs to develop laws to protect children, as well as strengthen already existing child protection systems to prevent abuse and violence. Training social workers, healthcare workers, police and border officials to help end trafficking supports communities in changing harmful and violent cultural norms that make children vulnerable to exploitation.
